Failed to write template data error message when trying to export or import attributes.

Product(s) and Version(s):  

ProjectWise Administrator all versions. 

Problem: When trying to export or import Attributes in an Environment an error message appears as shown below stating that Excel failed to initialize. This generally occurs due to corruption in the user’s Office Installation or due to a Microsoft Update. 

Error: Failed to write template data. Failed to initialize excel components. Make sure the supported Excel versions are properly installed on this computer. 

Solution: 

1. Uninstall Office Integration from ProjectWise Explorer to not break the integration with the next step. 

1. From your Microsoft Control Panel, you can remove the Office Integration from ProjectWise by going to Programs and Features, then selecting ProjectWise Explorer from your list of Programs and clicking on “Change”.   

1. Next, expand the options under ProjectWise Explorer and Tools and deselect the iDesktop Integration option as shown and then press Install which will remove the integration.                                   

1. Run the full online repair of Office as shown below 

1. Reinstall the Office Integration for Office with ProjectWise Explorer. 

1. Reinstallation of the Office Integration is the same as the removal in Steps 1a through 1b, except you, Mark the Idesktop Integration for installation and press install.  

1. Test the import and export.
