Unable to enumerate users. Error code is 1722

Revision 1 posted to Project Delivery: Content Management Wiki by Dana Guthrie on 1/11/2017 7:33:26 PM

 Product(s):ProjectWise User Synchronization
 Version(s):08.11.11.590
 Area: User Synchronization Service
Original Author:Dana Guthrie, Bentley Technical Support Group

Problem

User has three domains from which to pull user accounts.  When they try to add a user group to the synchronized groups, they get the error message: Unable to enumerate users.  Error code is 1722

Solution

How to trouble shoot

  • Log into the windows server (ProjectWise Integration server) as the account that is running the ProjectWise Integration and User Synchronization service.
  • Launch the windows active directory module: Click start, run, dsa.msc
  • Connect to the domain that you are trying to synch users from.
  • Go to a group on that domain and try to add a user.
  • If you are not able to enumerate a user then it is likely that the user account you are using does not have the correct permissions. Check with your IT team to make sure the user can enumerate users on the domain.
  • If you can enumerate the users in Active Directory from the Integration server, then check the following settings (taken from the ProjectWise Administrator Help)
  • When synchronizing multiple domains in a trusting/trusted relationship, one of the following configurations must be true, where Domain(A) is the Trusting Domain, and Domain(B) is the Trusted Domain:
  • ProjectWise administrative user must log in to Domain(B) on a computer (computer account) in Domain(A). The account from Domain(B) must be added to the local Administrator group. ProjectWise User Synchronization Service must be configured for the DomainB account.
  • Log in to a computer on DomainA as the local Administrator. Add Domain(A) and Domain(B) account to the local Administrator group, each account must have the same user name and password. Set ProjectWise User Synchronization Service to log on as the Domain(B) account. As long as a domain account from each domain has rights to the local computer, ProjectWise User Synchronization Service will synchronize accounts from both domains, even when the computer is logged on as a local administrator.

Bentley Connect Edition Update2 > Programs and Features > right click > "Change" not working as expected.

Revision 1 posted to Project Delivery: Content Management Wiki by Bill Kenney on 2/24/2017 9:34:45 PM

For Bentley Connect Edition Update2  10.00.02.96, the various Office or ACAD ProjectWise Integration modules are bundled into the installer. If you have Applications requiring the ProjectWise Integration modules installed, the ProjectWise Bentley Connect Edition installer will find those applicatio in the registry. It will then offer the checkbox for “enabling” the cognizant version in the install wizard.      However, the various ProjectWise Integration modules will not appear in Control Panel > Programs and Features as a separate entry.         If additional Integration modules that were not checked during the first install, and are now need to be taken off or added on, the process will be to uninstall the Bentley Connect Edition Update2   10.00.02.96, then Re-install it to do the enable or disable of the various Integration modules in the install wizard.

Currently, the right click option on ProjectWise Connect Edition Update2 > “Change” is there, but not functional yet. Right Click > Uninstall works.

If the right click > “Change” option is attempted, it currently will not enable or disable any of the options. You must “Un-install”, then enable the check boxes on the Re-Install of the Projectwise Bentley Connect Edition. If the installer presents any issues after “trying” the enabling of the check boxes, you may have to un-install, and re-boot the workstation.

Restricting Access to your ProjectWise Storage area's

Current Revision posted to Project Delivery: Content Management Wiki by Molly Watts on 2/28/2017 7:11:44 PM

Things to consider when configuring your ProjectWise Storage areas

A storage area is the physical location on a ProjectWise Integration Server or ProjectWise Caching Server computer, where the master copies of documents get stored when they are imported to ProjectWise.  This location is only ever accessed by the PW service, and not directly by the users, but its important that the PW service has access to create, modify and delete folders and files.

Storage areas are secure when they can only be accessed by ProjectWise. Prevent bypass of ProjectWise access controls by making storage areas secure. Use your operating system's controls to prevent mounting of ProjectWise files or allowing FTP access to ProjectWise files.

When using a UNC path to a location that resides on a remote computer (one without ProjectWise installed), set up permissions on the shared folder so that the domain or computer account under which ProjectWise Integration Server and/or ProjectWise Caching Server is running can access and write to it. (In other words, on the shared folder, give Read and Write permissions to the domain or computer account under which ProjectWise Integration Server and/or ProjectWise Caching Server is running.)

In this example, The PW Integration Server service running on the server named PWIS will need to run as a domain account that has the appropriate access on the configured shared directory on the Remote Server

Likewise, when creating a Storage area locally on a ProjectWise Integration Server and/or ProjectWise Caching server, the user account running the PW server requires read/write access to the configured directory.  This may be a local computer or domain account, or local system. Work with your IT department to ensure the correct account is used to allow permission to the configured storage area.

Problem Description

The Created By information from the Document Properties and Audit Trail information logs different user

Reason

The document was originally created by user A. After some time user A was deleted. By deleting, the files previously created will get assigned to the Owner of the Folder. But Audit Trail Records will still show the original user who created it even if the user has been deleted and added back into the system.

Problem

When I submit rendtions to the iCS Server for PDF, the pdf comes out rotated.  However, when submitting the same file for processing using Interplot Organizer and logging in as the iCS user and applying the same Presentation Component (IPLOT settings file), the pdf it not rotated.

Solution

Open PW Admin and check the Output File Formats Component being used for the Rendition Profile in question. Click "Edit" on the format being used ("PDF") and make sure the "Rotation" value under "Format Properties" is set to the default value of 270.  If it is set to any other value, it could cause the rendition to be rotated incorrectly.

Trouble-Shooting Office Integration

$

Revision 1 posted to Project Delivery: Content Management Wiki by Vickie.Hewitt on 3/29/2017 1:00:20 PM

Office Integration issues are a challenge to resolve. This post is written as a progression to help you step through the workflow to resolve these issues. Test each step before moving to the next one.

This post is written using Word as the example.

Is Office Up to Date?

Before trouble shooting make sure that all the Office updates are installed.

Is Office Integration installed?

Depending on the version of ProjectWise Explorer Client (PWE) that was installed, the office integration may need a separate install module or a new installation.

To check for Office integration:

  • Open Word from the desktop.
  • Select the blank template.
  • Select the ProjectWise ribbon.

If there is no ProjectWise Ribbon, there is no integration. If integration is missing you will need to install it.

Install Integration:

  • For ProjectWise Explorer V8i - 8.11.11.xx install the appropriate Office Integration Module version add-in.
  • For ProjectWise Explorer CE – 10.00.0x-xx Uninstall ProjectWise Explorer and remove any residual files, then reinstall the latest release of ProjectWise Explorer CE – 10.00.02.xx or higher.
  • Do a custom install and enable Office integration.
  • Launch Word, then select File Open and the ProjectWise login dialog will display.

If the ProjectWise ribbon is present in the ribbon bar, but the ProjectWise variable dialog doesn’t display, then integration may not be fully installed.

Reinstall Integration:

  • Uninstall ProjectWise and remove any residual files.
  • Use a registry cleaner of your choice
  • Repair the Office Installation from Programs and Features.
  • The best option is to then install the latest release of ProjectWise Explorer CE – 10.00.02.xx or higher. It will deliver the latest integration available for Office.
  • Open Word and select File Open. The ProjectWise login dialog will display.

At this point if the PWE login dialog doesn’t open (integration isn’t working) open a Service Request.

ProjectWise Application Associations

When an office document doesn’t open from PWE the first thing to check is the ProjectWise application association.

ProjectWise application associations can be set Globally or for a User.

Global ProjectWise associations:  Global Associations are set-up by an Administrator using the ProjectWise Administrator client.  To setup Global associations, Install the ProjectWise Administrator on a system that has all the programs the client will use.  This makes it easier to setup the class paths for the program associations.

User ProjectWise Associations: Some clients may have the software in a different path and thus will need a user specific program association. The most common case is when a user from one organization is logging in another organization’s datasource.

To check the application associations:

  • Open PWE and login to the datasource as the user having the issue
  • Select Tools à Associations à Programs
  • Switch the View to User Associations
  • Look at the Application that is not opening correctly
  • Expand Open.

If there is a user association, it needs to be removed.

Removing User Application Associations

  • Follow the steps above to view the user association.
  • Right Click on the Open path and Un-associate it.
  • Close the dialog and open a file from ProjectWise.

If the file opens correctly the user association was the problem.

If the file still doesn’t open correctly, then try creating a new user association.

Creating a User Application Association

  • Select Tools à Associations à Programs
  • Change the drop down menu in All Associations (Global and User) to User Associations.
  • Select the Application that matches what the file is using.
  • Right-click on Open and select Add Association
  • Select ProjectWise-integrated Microsoft Word, notice the program group is Word.Document.PW. (This program group was created by the installer.) Select OK to use this program for the association.

NOTE: If the program group is not found you will need to follow the reinstall instruction above.

  • Now open a file from ProjectWise.

If the file opens correctly the global association was the problem.

COM Objects

If changing the application associations doesn’t resolve the issue it may be that the Com object is unloading.

To Check the ProjectWise com objects:

  • Open Word.
  • Select File àOptionsàAdd-ins

Look in the Add-ins Dialog for the ProjectWise Com Objects.

  1. If the ProjectWise com objects are disabled continue to the next step.
  2. If the ProjectWise com objects are enabled and Word is still opening to a blank file jump to the final section of this document.
  3. If the ProjectWise com objects are missing, go to the first section on reinstallation.

There are several reasons why ProjectWise integration add-ins could be disabled; including:

  • The Bentley add-in(s) are not trusted
  • Disabled by Office as a precaution
  • Disabled as a policy

If the add-in has been disabled by Office as a precaution you may need to re-enable the appropriate add-in. But before you do that, make sure that the Bentley add-ins are trusted.

Trust Relationships

Checking that Bentley is trusted:

  • Open Word.
  • Select File àOptionsà Trust Center
    • Select Trust Center Settings
    • Select Trusted Locations
    • Look for the following folders in the Trusted Location Dialog:
      • C:\Program Files\Bentley
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley
      • C:\Program Data\Bentley
      • C:\WorkingDir (This should be the root folder you use for the Work Dirs)

If the folders are not there then they need to be added. The paths listed may vary depending on your configuration.

Setting Bentley Folders as trusted:

  • Select Add New Location
  • Browse to: C:\Program Files\Bentley
  • Check on the Subfolders of this location are also trusted
  • And select OK
  • Repeat this for:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley
    • C:\Program Data\Bentley
    • C:\WorkingDir (This should be the root folder you use for the Work Dirs)
    • Exit the Trust Center and open a file.

If Word stops on the blank file again check if the ProjectWise com objects are disabled. If they are then manually re-enable the com objects.

Disabled Com Objects

Manually enabling the com objects.

  • Open Word.
  • Select File àOptionsà Add-Ins page
    • Select ‘Go’ next to Manage COM Add-ins
    • Select the check box next to “ProjectWise iDesktop Integration” to enable it
    • Exit the trust center.
    • Close and reopen Word

If this selection doesn’t “stick” the next thing to try is to disable the Resiliency registry key.

NOTE: It is highly recommended to use this method as a last resort since removing the disabling of registry keys can have adverse effects on application stability and security.

Please check with your system administrator or IT department for proper direction before changing any registry keys.

Removing the disabling of the com objects in the registry.

  • Use Regedit and find the affected Office product add-in:
    Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Resiliency\DisabledItem
    • Your computer may show several office versions. You are looking for the version that corresponds with the Office you are running. 12.0 in the above example.
    • Right click on Disabled items
    • Select Export to back up the key to a safe location.
    • Then delete the keys below disabled items.
    • Exit regedit and Open a file with Word.

The file should now open directly in Office. If you are still getting the blank first page and you are using ProjectWise Explorer V8i - 8.11.11.xx open a Service Request.

If you are using ProjectWise Explorer CE – 10.00.0x-xx the CURVER registry key may need to be edited.

Incorrect Version Reg Keys

Deleting legacy registry key

  • Use Regedit and find the affected Office product add-in:
    HKEY.CLASSES.ROOT.\Word.Document.PW
    • Right click on Word.Document.PW
    • Select Export to back up the key to a safe location.
    • Then delete the curver keys below Word.Document.PW.
    • Exit regedit and Open a file with Word.
    • Repeat as necessary for additional products:
      • HKEY.CLASSES.ROOT.\Excel.Sheet.PW
      • HKEY.CLASSES.ROOT.\MsProject.Project.PW

If this doesn’t resolve the issue open a Service Request

Batch File Renaming in ProjectWise

Background

Client has a number drawings they need rename. They would like to preserve the original drawing name and just add a prefix  in front of the filename. How do you do this? And more importantly can you do this in batch?
One way of doing this is to use the ProjectWise Explorer “Modify” command.

Steps to Accomplish

 1.     Open ProjectWise Explorer
2.      Select a few files | right click and Select Modify
3.      Click on the arrow next to the lock and select Document Name
a.      This will place a check in the box next to the Name field as well as populate the name field with “${DocNm}”
4.      You can add your prefix or suffix in front of $ or at the end of m}
5.      Click apply to see your changes
6.      For example say I have a few files named test1, test2, etc …
7.      If I populate my Name field with Front${DocNm}Back my result will be Fronttest1Back, Fronttest2Back, etc …
